Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif killed in Kenya

The 49-year-old investigative reporter was killed when his car was fired upon in what police called a case of "misidentification".

Kenyan police have expressed regret over the killing of Pakistani investigative journalist Arshad Sharif, saying it was a 'misidentification' as he searched for a car similar to that involved in a car accident.
 
According to local media, the 49-year-old journalist was killed on Sunday evening when police fired shots at the car he was traveling in when it stopped at a checkpoint outside the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. . He and another Pakistani, Khurram Ahmed, were injured in the incident.

Sharif criticized Pakistan's powerful military, which has ruled the country for more than half of the 75 years since independence. He left his country in August after being charged with treason for an interview with an opposition politician during remarks deemed offensive to the military. The ARY news channel, for which he worked as a presenter for eight years, severed ties with Sharif after he briefly quit in August following a controversial conversation with Shahbaz Gill, an associate of former Prime Minister Imran. Body returned to Pakistan

Sharif’s body arrived in the capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday.

Sharif's family said his funeral will be held in Islamabad on Thursday.
